They’re baa-aack! And your Little Monsters will want in on all the fun at Monster U!

Whether it’s a birthday party, a summer sleep-over, or a just an excuse for a party, Monsters U is the perfect theme for an afternoon of fun for the kids.

But the Monster Party is only half the fun: the real fun is for you to plan and prep for the party with your kids! Getting ready for the party can be a week full of fun summer crafts and projects for you and the kids. Pinterest is full of ideas: search “monster party food” or “monster party” or “monster games”. Searching for Halloween foods and activities will also inspire your Monster theme.

Planning
1. Make the invitations
a. A monster mask is the perfect invitation. Construction paper, glue, scissors and markers are all you need to decorate your masks. Google eyes and make a fun addition. You can also print out the party details, and glue to the monster mask. Monster masks can be made from
a.i. paper plates
a.ii. paper bags
a.iii. felt or cloth
b. Get everyone excited for the big day: hand-deliver the invitations with a special monster treat: Monster Cookies or Cupcakes, Monster Popcorn, or Monster Gorp.
c. If you create your invitations from paper bags, they can do double-duty and hold the monster treat!
d. Invite everyone to wear a monster costume to the party

2. Plan a menu
a. Monster foods the kids can help make are
a.i. Monster Cake Pops or Marshmallow Pops or Brownie Pops
a.ii. Monster Munch: popcorn, goldfish (dead fish), pretzels (bones), dried fruit (eyeballs), candy corn (fangs),
a.iii. Monster Krispies
a.iv. Spaghetti and Monster Eyeballs
a.v. Apple Monsters
a.vi. Fruit Eyeball Kabobs
a.vii. Monster Eyeballs and Blood on a Bun
a.viii. Monster PB&J – cut with monster cookie cutters
a.ix. Grilled Monster Teeth Sandwich with Blood Juice (tomato soup)

3. Party Décor
a. Paper plates and cups can be decorated with google-eyes and scary teeth
b. Monster place settings with decorated napkins
c. Balloons decorated with google-eyes, yarn hair, or painted faces

Party Day
1. Games and entertainment
a. Guess how many monster teeth in the bowl (candy corn)
b. Toss the cookie in the monster’s mouth
c. Pin the eyeball on the monster
d. Monster marshmallow toss

2. Food fun
a. Decorate your own cookie, cupcake or cake pop
b. Guess the monster part:
b.i. Bowls of candy corn are monster teeth
b.ii. Bowls of cold spaghetti are monster guts
b.iii. Bowls of wet grapes and cherry tomatoes are monster eyeballs

3. Make a monster costume
a. Make and decorate your monster mask
b. Monster t-shirts – tye-dye, fabric paint, or permanent markers
c. Monster hats: party hats decorated with monster faces

Your Little Monsters and you will have a Monster Ball at the Monster Party! For younger kids, your monsters can be “cute”, older kids will appreciate “scary” monsters. Your creativity and enthusiasm will be well-worth it when you see their little monster grins!
